Vendor lock-in and lack of interoperability still holding smart cities back

A recent study into smart-city interoperability and vendor-lock in challenges highlights the role of the oneM2M service layer standard. oneM2M is leveraged globally and allows for the interoperability of legacy systems along with new systems. ABI also noted that engaging with standards allows industry to influence and steer the direction of standardisation. It can be advantageous for both larger organisations and small- and medium-enterprises (SMEs) as they can more readily work within the complex system of a city.
